October – Opal

October is here, the year seems to be moving so quickly!  Interesting October used to be the 8th month of the year, in an early Roman calendar in a 10 month year, and time seemingly is moving that quickly.  It feels like the year has converted back to a 10 month length, where has the time gone?

Then again October also allows us to showcase Opal as the birthstone for this month.  You can find within our site, that we already have a page for Opal.  A beautiful, truly Australian gem stone.  Opal, is also known as ‘rainbow’ opal, and this is said to have come from the Aboriginal ‘Dreaming’ stories about the Rainbow Serpent and stepping on the land turned the rocks to colourful rainbows, which then formed opals.  And Opals are just that beautiful.  Rainbow colours that are happily trapped in rock and shine beautifully in any light.

Like other gems we have showcased in our Gem Blog, Opal can also have great properties for the wearer.  Opal is said to turn a persons bad run of luck around.  It is also thought that an Opal is even more lucky and powerful if you wish on an Opal gem while a rainbow is in the sky.  Rainbow Opal is also the stone of ‘happy dreams’ and is especially helpful if you or a child suffers from bad dreams’ – The Crystal Bible

Do you have a person who is having a birthday in October?  Why not see some of our extensive Opal jewellery on our Opal Page or for more of our range, please contact us now via the ‘Contact Us’ tab.

July – Ruby or Pearl

A new month has begun, and as always Priceless Gems wishes to share with our customers and readers.  Thanks to those who have left brief comments and also contacted us to learn more about the stunning jewellery we have to offer and to suit what you are specifically looking for.

As always a new month also brings us to the next birthstone, and in this month’s case, a choice of birthstones.  July is widely known to have Ruby as its birthstone, but Pearl is also known as a substitute for Ruby.  In this post we will focus mainly on Ruby as we already have some of our beautiful Pearl jewellery on display. Check some of our range out by clicking on the Pearl tab above.

Ruby is a stunning red stone, and in my opinion can be a very dramatic gem.  I also like red! But having said that, ruby can be cut and set into beautiful jewellery.  Ruby can also be highly polished or used cut, and not polished and be equally appealing. Rubies are most commonly red in colour but they can vary to pink and even purple and brownish.

Rubies have always been mainly found in the Burma region, and with this have been in use there and the surrounding Asian countries and into China.  Firstly as a trade item or currency and of course for jewellery for the regions royalty and more. ’They were used to ornament armor, scabbards, and harnesses of noblemen in India and China. Rubies were laid beneath the foundation of buildings to secure good fortune to the structure.’Wikipedia

Today ruby is of course used to make stunning jewellery pieces and in the jewels still of royalty.  Ruby also can be beneficial for the wearer as like other stones discussed over the last months.  Ruby is said to strengthen immunity and aid emotional and physical stability.  Ruby is also thought to increase the courage of the wearer, and from the quoted passage above would be why ruby adorned armor.

As with all of our birthstone posts,  we at Priceless Gems always have jewellery of each particular month available for purchase.  As above we have wonderful ruby jewellery available and are happy to help you purchase a piece that suits you or your special someone.  Please contact us today using the above ‘Contact Us’ tab and we will help you gain that special piece of ruby jewellery.
